Respond To Charges Against You And Stop Misinforming The Public- Presidency Tells Sanusi

Here is a press statement sent in from the State house;
We have noted with disappointment, the unrelenting attempt by the  Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to falsely portray his recent suspension from office as an attempt by the Presidency to bury his allegation that huge sums of money due to the Federation Account are unaccounted for by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The Presidency wishes to reaffirm that Mallam Sanusi’s suspension has absolutely nothing to do with his unproven and inconsistent claim that $49.8 Billion, $12 Billion or $20 Billion is missing from the national treasury.

As was clearly stated in the letter suspending him from office and confirmed by President Goodluck Jonathan in his last Presidential Media Chat, Mallam Sanusi’s suspension was wholly based on the need for him to step aside while the weighty charges of financial recklessness, gross misconduct and persistent disregard for laid down rules and regulations in the management of the Central Bank made against him by the Financial ReportingCouncil of Nigeria and others are properly investigated.
It is most unfortunate that instead of trying to provide some reasonable response to the clear and unambiguous query of his official conduct as Governor of the Central Bank, Mallam Sanusi  has cynically chosen to whip up public sympathy for himself and anger against the Federal Government by deliberately misleading unwary Nigerians and the international community into believing the falsehood that he is being punished for exposing corruption.
In recent days, the suspended CBN Governor has, following in the footsteps of others who have an axe to grind with the government, taken to spreading his false claims and allegations through gullible foreign media correspondents, telling them among other things that his threat to force commercial banks to open up their books to unravel the whereabouts of the “missing” funds whether $49.8 Billion, $12 Billion or $20 Billion, ultimately led to his suspension.
He also continues to make the mischievous claim that the government is somehow involved in a scam to divert huge sums of money from the Federation Account through the misappropriation of kerosene subsidy funds.
Mallam Sanusi’s allegations are patently untrue. But Government is making no effort to bury them as he falsely claims. Relevant committees of the National Assembly are still investigating the claims and the suspended CBN Governor remains free to give evidence before them in support of his allegations.
Furthermore, in keeping with its avowed commitment to full transparency, openness and accountability in governmental affairs, the Federal Government has authorized the engagement of reputable international firms for the recommended forensic audit of NNPC accounts.
The Presidency condemns Mallam Sanusi’s resort to playing politics with serious national issues.  His suggestion that the phantom missing funds may have been diverted to fund campaigns for next year’s general elections is mischievous, irresponsible and designed to incite other political parties and members of the public against the Federal Government.
The claim which amounts to cheap blackmail against the government and was clearly made in furtherance of a selfish personal agenda is most unbecoming of someone who still holds the High Office of Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The Presidency would not ordinarily have wished to join issues with Mallam Sanusi who as CBN Governor remains an appointee of the President, but the very unacceptable manner in which Sanusi has been misinforming the public made it imperative that this statement be issued.

Exclusive! ‘Pastor’ in N3.1m fraud case

ABEOKUTA— The Ogun State Police Command, yesterday, paraded a fake pastor, Ndubuisi Ignatius, and 38 other suspects for allegedly engaging in various criminal activities across the state.

Ignatius was accused of disguising as a spiritual father, held one James Nwosu, living at Agbara in Ado Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, hostage and robbed  him of N3,190,000.

The Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, while parading the 39 suspected criminals in Abeokuta, disclosed that the fake pastor, who had been a spiritual father to Nwosu’s family for over six months, was arrested February 25 after he allegedly defrauded his client.

Okoye further said that the fake man of God had confessed to the crime he was accused, adding that he would be charged to court after the completion of investigation on the matter.

… another saws off 2-yr-old girl’s fingers

BY CHINYERE ABIAZIEM

Lagos— One Mayo Martins, who claims to be a pastor, was arraigned in a Yaba court for allegedly cutting the fingers of Saidat Faleya, a two year old-girl with a saw.

The girl’s mother said the incident happened when her daughter went to a neighbour’s room when she went to have her bath, and then was alerted about her daughter’s bleeding and dangling fingers.

In the court, Martins said he did not intentionally cut the girl’s fingers, though the police said he initially denied the allegation.

However, he was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety and was instructed to be in court for the next hearing on April 24.

Also, a teenager, one Avoseh Abraham, was docked in a Yaba Magistrate’s Court for allegedly raping an 80 year old woman, Mrs Martha Swotan.

Adepoju -- Keshi needs Ike Uche, Odemwingie

Former Nigeria midfielder Mutiu Adepoju says coach Stephen Keshi needs to include experienced forwards Ikechukwu Uche and Peter Odemwingie in his squad in order to have a balanced team at the World Cup.

After watching the international friendly match between the Super Eagles and Mexico that ended goalless, Adepoju concluded that the Big Boss needs the duo to have a complete squad.

While Uche last played for the Super Eagles in the final match of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, Odemwingie has not been called up to the national team since he had an open falling out with former coach Samson Siasia and the Nigeria Football Federation in 2012.

“My dear friend Stephen Keshi needs to forgive the boy, Ike Uche and bring him back into the team for the 2014 World Cup preparations,” Adepoju who played alongside Keshi in the Golden Team of 1994 told Goal.

“Ike Uche has really done well in his club to deserve a call up. Keshi can re-assess him in the other friendly matches the Eagles will play.

“I will be happy if he can extend invitations to Osaze Odemwingie too now that he is also doing well with his club in England.

“I want Keshi to temper justice with mercy in the interest of Nigerian football. We must go to the World Cup with our best legs,” he declared.

The former General Manager of Shooting Stars also scored the performance of the four new players invited by Keshi for the Mexico friendly high in the match.

“The newly invited players – Michael Uchebo, Ramon Azeez, Isaac Imoh and defender Leon Balogun – are good players but they still need to play more friendly matches with the team to be able to blend with the team on ground.

“To the best of my knowledge I think has a team on ground and he is just looking for a few to beef up the grey areas in the team. So it depends on which areas or positions in the team Keshi wants to beef up.

“But to me it’s the forward and the midfield that need to be worked on. So I think the inclusion of Ike Uche would definitely solidify the team while Osaze’s return to the team will add quality to the team. These players are in rich form for their respective clubs,” Adepoju said.

Obi not interested in SGF job, says aide

AWKA — Senior Special Assistant to Governor Peter Obi on Media and Publicity, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, has described as a figment of imagination, report in some newspapers that the outgoing governor of Anambra State was being considered for either the post of Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF,  a minister or an ambassador.

In a statement in Awka, yesterday, Obienyem said the epidemic of speculations surrounding Governor Obi’s next move after handing over to his successor on March 17, 2014, was understandable, but insisted, however, that his boss’ only wish was to hand over successfully, having taken Anambra from grass to glory and from a state that witnessed many bank robberies to one that had not witnessed any bank robbery in four years.

Obieyem said: “As you are aware, Obi is still the governor of Anambra State.  His major concern  is to finish strong.

“Associating any federal appointment with him is speculation and rumour-mongering and should be treated as such.”

According to him, whatever would “happen to the governor after his exit from Awka Government House is God’s wish.”

The governor’s aide said what should be the people’s concern was how the governor would end successfully and support the in-coming governor for the good of the state and not planting seeds of discord through baseless rumours.

President’s Cousin Kidnap Update: Police Arrests Royal Father, 5 Others

Tuesday, March 11, 2014

Police in Bayelsa State have arrested a royal father, believed to be the father of the leader of the gang of hoodlums who allegedly kidnapped Mr Inengite Nitabai, a cousin to the president. Five other suspects are also said to be cooling off in the police net.
According to a source, the kidnappers got in touch with his family after he was kidnapped on the 23rd of February, 2014 and demanded for N500m ransom, but his family pleaded with them to accept N30m, but they rejected it out rightly, saying the amount was laughable. The 65-year old man is still in the den of his kidnappers.

Amaechi led NGF invites Jang’s faction to a Retreat in Lagos

By Henry Umoru
ABUJA- CHAIRMAN, Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF and Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi is holding yet another retreat in Lagos, with invitation extended to the NGF led by governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang.

The retreat which is slated to hold between March 13 and 14, would discuss corruption, dwindling state of education, and Nigeria’s dependence on oil.

In a statement by Governor Amaechi and his Bayelsa State counterpart, Seriake Dickson who belong to the same faction have been listed among seven other Nigerians to discuss a topic, “Institutional and Social Drivers of Insecurity at the sub-national level: Finding Workable Solutions, just as six governors in Amaechi’s camp have been listed as discussants on various topics lined up for discussion at the retreat.

According to Amaechi, other governors to discuss the topic are Governors Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Kashim Shettima (Borno), Ibrahim Gaidam (Yobe), Abdul-aziz Yari (Zamfara) and Sule Lamido (Jigawa).

But in a swift reaction yesterday, Governor Jonah Jang who distanced himself and his group from the planned retreat being organised by Governor Amaechi led NGF, said that, “it has come to their knowledge that there is a program in circulation naming its members as participants in the said retreat.

In a statement signed yesterday in Abuja by the Media Officer, Kassim Yakubu, the Jonah Jang led Forum said, “this was a cunning attempt to give the retreat credibility following the dismal showing of the first one held in Sokoto last year.

“They have realised that Nigerians now know that they are an opposition governors forum and the only way to get credibility now is to invoke the names of governors who clearly do not belong to their group nor share in their vision of turning the Governors Forum into an anti federal government body.

“The first retreat turned out to be an anti federal government venting exercise and did not gain any traction with the general public who want the governors to stick with their primary functions of running their states and the objectives of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum which is to work in cohesion with all other tiers of government to deliver needed development to the Nigerian people.

“The planned retreat will turn out to be another federal government bashing get-together where the opposition script will be acted out.”

According to Amaechi, the topic for the retreat would be presented by Jon Ode, a retired Air Vice Marshall in the Nigeria Air Force, Innocent Chukwuma of the Ford Foundation, and Haruna Abdullahi, a security consultant, even as the session would be chaired by former Police Affairs Minister, Ibrahim Lame.

In a session that will be chaired by a former governor of Kwara State, Bukola Saraki, Governors Saidu Dakingari of Kebbi State and Sullivan Chime of Enugu State will join their counterparts from Adamawa, Kwara, Nasarawa and Oyo States to discuss the topic, “Overview of the Current State of Agriculture in the States” and “Nigeria Without Oil: Unlocking Agricultural Value Chain,” which will be presented by Babagana Gambo, Victor Okoruwa, Alfred Dixon and Bismarck Rewane.

Governors Ibrahim Dankwambo and Martin Elechi, governors of Gombe and Ebonyi, respectively will discuss the topic, “Building Systems and Institutions that prevent Corruption,” in a session that will be chaired by a former Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, Mustapha Akanbi.

They are to discuss the topic, which will be presented by the pioneer chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu and Akin Oyebode, a professor, alongside Governors Babatunde Fashola (Lagos), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto) and Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun).

On their parts, Governors Shehu Shema of Katsina State and Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State will be discussants on a topic titled, “Improving Access and Quality Education at the Sub-national Level,” which will be presented by Oyesoji Aremu, a professor at the University of Ibadan.

The other governors who will discuss the topic to be chaired by Grace Alele-Willaims, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, are Governors Rabi’u Kwankwaso (Kano), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Babangida Aliyu (Niger) and Mr. Amaechi.

The Forum’s strategic plan for 2014 to 2016 will be adopted at the Lagos retreat, according to the programme.

Fear of Boko Haram: 250 female students of FGGC relocated

Over 250 female students of the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Monguno in Borno State have been relocated to another school in Maiduguri following recent attacks on public schools in the North by Boko Haram members.

The Principal of FGGC Maiduguri told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri yesterday that the students were relocated last week

“The students started coming on March 3, shortly after the mass transfer, they are still coming. As at this morning (Monday), we have about 225 students. But I believe by now the figure will have risen to 250.
“We have already accommodated them in our hostels, especially where we had vacant rooms. Since they are all girls, we have identified an unoccupied three bed-room bungalow for possible conversion into a hostel accommodation for them if their number increases. They were transferred with 70% of their teachers, who have also started reporting for duty,” The principal said.

Aliko Dangote ready to redeem $1million promise to Super Eagles

Billionaire business man Aliko Dangote says he is ready to redeem his promise of awarding $1m to the Super Eagles for winning the 2013 African Cup of Nations last year in South Africa. He said this a few days after goal keeper and Super Eagles vice-captain Vincent Enyeama begged him and others who pledged various things to the team to fulfill their promises.
"We understand the busy schedule of Alhaji Dangote, we are just asking his aides to help remind him of the promise to us. It’s just a reminder to patriots who are very busy and may not have been prompted after they made their pledges, because the players are determined to bring more honours to fatherland at the forthcoming World Cup” Enyeama said
Speaking with BBC Sports, Dangote said the only reason he hasn't redeemed his promise was because nobody from the team or NFF had contacted him
"We’ve been waiting for Nigerian officials to collect the money but nobody has written to us. We will write to them, asking for the account numbers of the players, then we’ll make the transfer immediately.”

Mother sells three-day-old baby for N260,000 in Akwa Ibom

According to a report by Punch, a nursing mother in Akwa Ibom named Imaobong Udoh (pictured above) has been arrested for allegedly selling her 3-day old baby girl for N260,000. Full report below

Also arrested along with Imaobong were four persons for allegedly participating in the theft of the baby.
They are the buyer, Mrs. Regina James; her husband, Mfon James; the traditional birth attendant who delivered the baby, Mrs. Comfort Henry; and Mr Emmanuel Okon, a homeopathic doctor, who arranged the sale.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Gwadabe, said in Uyo on Monday that the father of the baby had reported the theft to the police, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
Gwadabe said, “On March 3, 2014, a case of child stealing was reported by Mr. Eteobong James, of No. 33 Urua Ekpa Road, Itu Local Governmnet Area, to the police, where a three-day-old baby girl was sold for N260, 000.
“Based on the report, the suspects were arrested.
“Mr Emmanuel Etim Okon, was the one that arranged the infamous deal and personally conveyed the baby from the point of delivery at Nna-Enin in Uruan Local Government Area to the buyers at No. 37 Church Road, Uyo.”
The police boss explained that Regina allegedly paid N150,000 to the mother of the baby and N110,000 to Okon, the homeopathic doctor, for his services.
The commissioner stated that the accused would soon be arraigned in court and warned child thieves to steer clear of the state.
He explained that the state would not be conducive for their illicit trade.
Husband of the buyer, James, who spoke with PUNCH METRO said when his wife told him she was pregnant, he gave her money for ante-natal care, but was surprised to hear that she bought the baby.
He said, “l am a trader. My wife, Regina, told me she was pregnant and I gave her money for ante-natal. One day, she told me she was in labour and later informed me that she had been delivered of a baby girl.
“I did not know she bought the baby since she has given birth to four children, though three died.”
However, the homeopathic doctor said Regina brought the mother of the baby, Imaobong, to him so that he could take care of her during ante-natal.
He said Regina had explained to him that the father of the baby was not financially buoyant to take care of her.
He denied collecting N110,000 from Regina, stating that he only collected N30,000, which was the cost of delivery of Imaobong’s baby.
“When Regina brought Imaobong to me, she told me that the man responsible for the pregnancy was unable of take care of her.
“The N30,000 I collected from her was for the upkeep of Imaobong before and during delivery of the baby. I did not collect N110,000.”
